Summary:
The Chef is a vital member of our team, driving the culinary vision of Chimiking Restaurant while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. They are responsible for menu creation, kitchen management, and ensuring the overall quality and taste of the dishes served. Their role is crucial in delivering an authentic Dominican and Puerto Rican culinary experience to our guests.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and continually enhance the menu, ensuring a variety of options and a reflection of Dominican and Puerto Rican culinary traditions.
  • Oversee the preparation, cooking, and presentation of meals, ensuring consistency in taste and quality.
  • Supervise kitchen staff, including training, mentoring, and managing performance.
  • Collaborate with the restaurant manager to determine food inventory needs, order supplies, and manage budget to maximize profitability and minimize waste.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Test new recipes, cooking techniques, and equipment to improve and streamline the cooking process.
  • Handle customer complaints and feedback regarding meal quality or preparation.
  • Establish portion sizes and prepare standard recipe cards for all new menu items.
  • Monitor and manage maintenance needs of kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Collaborate with other staff and management to create a memorable dining experience for guests.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Chef or similar role, preferably with a background in Dominican and Puerto Rican cuisine.
  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ingredients, cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and related processes.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse team.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work during evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Passion for the culinary arts and a desire to share this with others.
